Why Geoffrey is Running
My name is Geoffrey Grammer. I’m a Democrat, veteran, family man and physician running for U.S. Congress in Maryland’s 6th district open seat in the May 14th Democratic primary. With compassion and courage as my guiding principles, I am committed to fighting for Marylanders in Congress to secure our democracy. I believe in doing what is right, even if it’s not easy.
Let me tell you a bit about my background. My lovely wife, Mary El, and I are proud parents of Joshua, Daniel, Riley and Philip, plus our rescue dogs, Sandy and Rosie.
Following my family’s tradition of military service, I served honorably for 25 years in the U.S. Army, including completing three overseas deployments. I retired in 2017 having earned the rank of colonel. After my military service, I became the Chief Medical Officer for one of the nation’s largest behavioral health practices.
Now, I want to continue my service to our country in the United States Congress.
Why am I the best person to represent you?
When I was deployed to Iraq, service men and women were posted at remote bases around the country. I, alongside the brave members of the 785th Combat Stress Company, traveled by convoy to combat zones to care for soldiers. I was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for being the main driving force behind carrying out our unit’s wartime mission, as well as the Combat Action Badge for direct combat engagement. One of our missions in Sad’r City with warfighters was featured on “60 Minutes.” I was honored to be interviewed by Correspondent Christiane Amanpour to discuss leading mental health professionals into remote combat areas to ensure soldiers didn’t have to travel along dangerous routes to receive care.
Moving our country forward will take this same courage, hard work and compassion.
I will fight for better access and improved health care for all. I believe we should hold insurance companies accountable for denying coverage for tests, procedures or medications if standards of care are not met.
I will fight for women’s reproductive rights. I strongly support a woman’s right to determine her best health care options. Reproductive health is a deeply personal, sensitive and intricate area of medicine. It is imperative that Congress pass legislation codifying a woman’s right to reproductive health care.
I will fight for a strong economy that evolves with changes in technology. As a resolute advocate for a sustainable and prosperous future, I’m committed to ensuring America remains a pioneer in renewable energy solutions. Contingent upon being manufactured in the United States, I support federal incentives for home solar systems, plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles. I will support federal initiatives that catalyze economic growth in the 6th district.
I will fight to secure our democracy. We need staunch defenders of democracy in Congress who will forcefully confront extremism, ensuring there is no space for lies and deceit to take root.
I support straightforward voter registration processes, clear voter confirmation of registration status, and unambiguous notifications about polling locations and voting options. Additionally, I will back legislation that shines a light on the shadowy funds that distort our political conversations.
I will be a U.S. Representative who listens to and is a champion for labor. I staunchly support Davis-Bacon for prevailing wages and will work hard to strengthen labor unions in Maryland and across our nation. When labor and business work together, our economy thrives, we achieve superior results and America becomes more resilient.
I will be an ally for veterans in the U.S. Congress. For generations, brave men and women have answered the call to defend our democracy against threats, both foreign and domestic. I’ll fervently advocate for increased medical support for service members and their dependents, as well as retirees. It is critical that active-duty service members are equipped with the finest equipment and training.
I am a strong supporter of our Law Enforcement personnel. Let me be clear: I do not support defunding the police. I will champion quality of life improvements for law enforcement, such as the Homes for Every Local Protector, Educator, and Responder – or HELPER – Act, which proposes a program similar to the VA loan program. I’m committed to bridging law enforcement and the community, emphasizing mutual respect, understanding and collaboration.
I will be an advocate for our senior citizens. I will not support any cuts of Medicare or Social Security. I support a holistic approach towards senior care, including improved health care, financial support and opportunities for continued engagement in community activities.
I believe the United States should be a leader in the world to promote peace, prosperity and democracy around the globe. Isolationism is an ill-conceived approach that denies lessons from history and is not in the best interest of our nation.
I stand firmly with Israel and Ukraine in their rights to exist and to defend themselves from aggression and we must stop the indiscriminate harm being committed to civilian non-combatants.
I will fight to do what is right by bringing together community leaders, labor leaders, small business owners, veterans, first responders, teachers, senior citizens, environmentalists, farmers and anyone who has an interest in working together. The politics of division, marginalization and disinformation will find no fertile ground here in Maryland’s 6th district.
I ask for your support in the Democratic primary, and I look forward to being your next U.S. Representative, to fight for better health care, a strong economy and a secure democracy.
May God continue to bless these United States of America.
